On September 13th 2000, the Italian Governament acknowledged a new DOC in the south–east part of the province of Verona (Veneto Region): the Arcole appellation. The Bixio Family, 5th generation of grape growers, established here the Azienda Agricola Desmontà, a 30 hectares vineyard estate that produce high quality wines blending together tradition and new technology systems. The hot, humid and windy microclimate enriches and ripens the grapes; the sandy soil brings soft and velvety tannins. Bixio was the first producer of the Arcole DOC to enter the market with the Merlot Arcole Riserva DOC, a wine aged for 2 years in tonneaux, and in 2009 with the Nero d’Arcole DOC, a beautiful and complex wine that combine the traditional burgundy style with the “appassimento method”. This method is typical of the Veneto region and consists in letting the grapes drying before pressing them. These fabulous wines are becoming increasingly popular in the international wine market, receiving the approval of the finest critics.
